Dell powers PowerEdge Systems with AMD Opteron

The California based AMD and a cut throat rival of Intel is making all its best efforts to regain its fame. To fulfill its aim AMD has announced a number of server platforms that will be powered by its Opteron processors. Almost 37 platforms from global OEM’s are supported on AMD’s quad core Opteron processors. Additionally, the chip maker is also trying to be a player in virtualization segment. Recently the company has also collaborated with Microsoft to improve the virtualization adoption in the SMB sector. Even Dell has also announced two new Opteron-equipped server systems, part of its PowerEdge lineup, to offer a better virtualization experience for business customers. As per sources, PowerEdge servers will support 66 virtual machines. AMD’s new quad-core Opteron processors include numerous features, including AMD-V technology and Rapid Virtualization Indexing. With its virtualization solutions with Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors with AMD-V technology, Dell expects to offer customers a smarter path to virtualization.
India, a hot market for Vista

It seems that all efforts to push Vista on the forefront are proving fruitful in India. The software giant, Microsoft has claimed that over 180 million licenses of Windows Vista have been sold worldwide, with India alone crossing over two million copies.This news is denial to all initial concerns related to areas of device and application compatibility thus indicating Vista’s progress. Since the consumer launch in January 2007, nearly 180 million Windows Vista licenses have been sold worldwide.The reports also confirmed that Vista is doing well in the consumer segment too.The large computer manufacturers such as HCL, HP, Lenovo, have been shipping Vista-loaded PCs.
To penetrate more firmly to partners, Microsoft is undertaking various training via strong programs (Microsoft Learning Circle, Microsoft Foundation Series) to train and certify partner sales and technical personnel in India.Also to promote and increase the availability of Windows Vista, Microsoft is aggressively expanding their geographical reach to cover hundreds of cities and retail outlets across the country. The company has even recently launched an e-Commerce platform in India, www.buyoriginalms.com, for original Microsoft products including Windows Vista, Office, Server, Xbox, games and gaming accessories.Microsoft has stopped production of XP and all the newer hardware that is being produced is better supported by Vista.
